Accelerated English 9 Class Policies

REQUIRED MATERIALS:

The following materials are required in class every day: the textbook or novel we are studying, a pen/pencil, a notebook, and a folder/binder.

EXPECTATIONS:

All rules listed in the CCHS handbook will be enforced.

In addition, please observe the following rules:

1. Be in the room and quietly sitting in your seat when the        bell rings.

2. No food is allowed.  This includes candy, mints, and gum.    No drinks, except water, are allowed.

3. Please keep all materials and personal items off the floor.      Purses should be placed in your desk or hung on the            back of your chair.

GRADING POLICY:

1. Complete all assignments by the due date.  Late work

will be accepted according to the following policy:

    a. Each student will receive 2 “free passes” each

quarter which may be used to avoid a late penalty.

    b. The pass may be used on any daily homework and                must be stapled to the assignment to receive credit.

    c. The late assignment with the pass attached will be              accepted up to 24 hours late.

    d. Late passes may not be used for projects or essays.        e. Once a student has used his/her two passes, all other          late work will receive a zero.

    f. Unused passes are worth extra credit at the end of              the quarter.  Each pass is worth 3 points.

    g. If a student loses the passes, they cannot be                    replaced.

2. Grades are based on tests, quizzes, homework, essays,        projects, and in-class work.

3. Extra credit is rarely given. Students have many other          opportunities to earn points.

4. Grading scale:

    90-100 A

    80-89 B

    70-79 C

    60-69 D

    59-0 F

5. CHEATING:  Cheating in any form will not be tolerated.          This includes not only cheating on tests and quizzes,

but homework assignments, projects, and in-class work.      Unless I specifically tell you that you may work with            someone else, assume that you must complete the              assignment on your own.  If you don’t understand              something, please see me, and I will gladly help you.            Don’t abuse the gift of intelligence that God has given          you!

6. Being in Accelerated English 9 is a privilege.  With that          privilege comes responsibility.  Students are expected

to turn in all work on time, bring materials to class each        day, prepare adequately for tests, and participate in            class.  Any student who receives a D or F during first

or second quarter may be removed from this class.

ABSENCES:

1. When you return from an absence, it is YOUR                      responsibility to collect make-up work. If you fail to

inquire about missed work, zeros will be given for all            assignments!

2. The number of days missed by the student is the

number of days he/she will have to make up                      assignments.

For example, a student misses school on Monday and          Tuesday.  He/she should gather the assignments on            Wednesday and turn in all missed work by Friday.

Exceptions may be made for extended absences.
