Choral Music Grading Policy and Class Expectations
Central Catholic High School
Mrs. Myers – 2008-2009
Your choir grade will be based on the following:
· daily points earned during rehearsal for participation and level of preparation
· your attendance, participation, and preparation level for all required performances
· written assignments, quizzes, and test
· your midterm and final exam grades
· individual singing tests
Daily Points
Points will be available each day and are based on the expectations listed below:
· Coming to rehearsal on time. Three tardies will equal an unexcused absence; two unexcused absences will result in the lowering of your grade by one letter. If you know you are going to be absent, please notify Ms. Andresen in advance by turning in an excused absence form signed by a parent or guardian, NOTES SIGNED BY STUDENTS OR OTHER TEACHERS WILL NOT RESULT IN AN EXCUSED ABSENCE. If you know that your sports or after school activity schedule will interfere with attendance, write out or copy your schedule and have a parent/guardian sign it. No absence will be excused without a parent/guardian signature.
· Bringing all music and materials needed to fully participate. You are in charge of keeping track of and taking care of your music, folders and concert clothes. All these items belong to CCHS and you will be charged the replacement cost of anything that is lost or damaged while in your care.
· Treating others with respect at all times.
· Coming to rehearsal prepared so that we can all leave rehearsal with a sense of accomplishment. Rehearsal time is for group improvement; individual work must be done at home!
I expect all choir members to conduct themselves with a sense of pride and professionalism at all times. If there are problems in the following areas, your grade and participation in choir events will be affected.
· No food, gum, candy, or drinks other that bottled water will be allowed during class.
· All of your actions during rehearsal should help the group accomplish the goals of the day. If you are interfering with rehearsal, you will be asked to leave the classroom, this will be counted as an unexcused absence.
· Always put forth your best effort. Simply going through the motions of a rehearsal wastes your time and ours. Rehearse the way you will perform.
Concert performance points will be based on the following:
You must be on time for warm-ups.
You must be dressed in the required and appropriate concert attire.
You must stay for the entire concert and be in the audience for all other performing groups at that concert.
You must be prepared.
You must demonstrate respectful and courteous concert behavior at all times.
You are expected to help with set-up and clean-up for any performance.
All concerts are required. You must notify Ms. Andresen at least two weeks before the performance if you are not going to attend and need to be excused. You must have a letter stating the reason and signed by a parent/guardian.
Written assignments, quizzes, and test points:
All assignments, quizzes, and tests will be announced in advance.
Your final exam points will be based on the following:
Your knowledge of and ability to perform the literature we have worked on in class.
All class discussions including but not limited to the topics of vocal care, singing techniques, music history, and music theory.
