Christian Vocation (Juniors--First Semester)
The purpose of this course is for each student to examine, understand, and appreciate, the beauty and power of the call of God within his or her heart. The role of prayer will be explained and a variety of types of prayer will be explored. The course will emphasize the universal call to holiness, which finds its summit in the perfection of love. This will lead into a further develpment of the personal vocation of each Christian and the way that this vocation is to be lived out either in virginity or matrimony. The course seeks not only to inform the student of the various types of vocations within the Church, but also to awaken the desire to discern and pursue his or her personal vocation. The text of sacred Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church will serve as the driving force behind each of the major parts of the course.
Sacraments (Sophomores--First Semester)
This course will examine the basic understanding of sacramentality, and provide an advanced understanding of the seven Sacraments. The Paschal Mystery and Liturgy will be explored so that students can be brought to a fuller participation in the celebration and reception of reach Sacrament. The text of sacred Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church will serve as the driving force behind each of the major parts of this course.
Church History (Juniors--Second Semester)
This course will examine the major themes and events of the first 2000 years of Church History. The course will center on the lives of the saints and the way that their faithful witness to Christ, often through martyrdom, has shaped the modern world. Students will be led to an understanding of the ways that personal interpretation of history must be formed and informed from the perspective of faithfulness to the Church of Christ.
Fundamentals of Christian Morality (Sophomores--Second Semester)
Taking as its basis, the inate desire of every human being for happiness, students will be led to an understanding that Christian morality is the prescription Christ offers us to satisfy the deepest longings of every human heart. The fundamental principles of Christian morality will be discussed from the standpoint of Scripture and Tradition and in the light of practical problems in the modern world. The course will cover truth, the human person, evil, freedom and law, as well as other relevant issues.
