Forensic Science is being offered for the first time at CCHS. A rough estimate of the syllabus is offered at the right. There will be many guest speakers from the Police Department, Coroner's Office, FBI Crime Lab, Dentists, and many teachers from CCHS coordinating their efforts as well. The availability of these guest speakers may determine the order or daily class lesson plan.
Forensic science is an introductory course. Its primary focus is on practicing forensic science and analyzing physical evidence found at crime scenes. The fundamental objective is to teach the basic processes and principles of scientific thinking so as to apply them to solving problems that are related not only to science but to all disciplines.
Attendance for the student will be key. There are over 70 labs and class activities that will be assigned as group or individual projects. This aspect of the class, along with the guest speakers makes attendance necessary in order to guarantee that you get the most accurate information straight from the source.
In addition, a larger project will be assigned each quarter involving analysis of criminal activities and the technology used to solve cases. At the end of the year, a crime scene will be set up and the students will be required to solve the crime by analyzing hair, DNA, fiber and blood samples.
Grades will be determined by:
Tests - at the end of each chapter
Homework - Review Questions, Crosswords, Handouts
Quizzes - Over assigned reading (WEEKLY)
Labs - Including lab reports
In-Class Activities - Group or Individual
Special Projects - Quarterly
Semester Exams - End of Each Semester
Forensic Science First Quarter Syllabus
Forensic Science Second Quarter Syllabus
